A written notification is required if a student is to leave school with someone other than a parent, a designated caregiver or an "emergency contact" listed on your registration form.  While the staff will work with you in an emergency situation, under normal circumstances, we will not release your child to an unregistered party on a verbal authorization.

ARRIVAL PROCEDURES

To walk your child onto the playground, you may park on Lee Avenue and walk your child to the area next to the cafeteria/gym where classes line up at 7:55AM.  If you do, please remember that a public alley runs between the classroom building and the gymnasium/cafeteria and divides the playground from the parking lot.  When walking to or from school buildings, parents and students should always stay on the playground side of the alley.

If you arrive after 8:00AM, you must park your car and deliver your child to the back door of the school. If you arrive after 8:10 AM you must park your car and deliver your child to the front desk (at the main entrance on 9th Street.  Do not double park on 9th Street.  Students entering the school at the 9th Street entrance MUST be accompanied by a parent or designated guardian and sign in. They will receive an admittance slip to their classroom from the school administrative specialist at the front desk.

Dismissal Procedures

To pick-up your child in your vehicle, the same basic procedures for arrival also apply to afternoon dismissal.  Form three lines between the power poles and pull forward. Do not park on Lee Avenue between the entrance and exit to the parking lot as cars parked in this space inhibit visibility and add to traffic congestion.

Children who are not picked up in the parking lot by 3:15PM are taken to Extended Daycare in the cafeteria.   Parents will be charged per hour. Extended Daycare is available in the cafeteria until 6:00PM.

Children who ride their bikes to school must wear helmets. Students must walk their bikes when on school grounds. They must park their bikes in the designated racks and lock them.

Emergency Dismissal Procedures

In the event of extreme weather conditions, funerals, or other emergency situations, school staff will hang a red flag on the fence by the parking lot entrance.  When a red flag is on the fence, do not enter the parking lot to pick up your child.  Instead, proceed down Lee Avenue and turn left on 8th St. Turn left on S. Blvd. and left again at the alley that runs between the classroom building and the gym.  Proceed slowly down the alley to the doors at the back of the classroom building.  A teacher will direct you to pull up to the speed bump where a faculty or staff member will put your child in your car.

To reduce traffic congestion and confusion for children, you must drive your car down the alley to pick up your child.  Only families who walk to the school in the afternoon will be allowed to come in through the front door to pick up their children.

If cars are already lined up in the parking lot and this procedure is to take place, as in the case of a sudden downpour, a school monitor will inform parents of the change.

Early Dismissals

In order to be dismissed early from school for any reason, to secure the safety of our children, the student must bring a note from the Parent/Guardian to the office in the morning. No child may leave the premises without written permission or a direct phone call from a Parent/Guardian to the Principal or Administrative Specialist. Parents/Guardians will be notified if a child is to be sent home for any reason. The student will be dismissed directly from the office, where the Parent(s)/Guardian(s) can call for them. The student will be signed out. Routine daily dismissals are supervised by the teachers and are conducted in an orderly manner.

Emergencies

The school is equipped to handle minor medical emergencies. In case of a serious accident/illness, Parents/Guardians will be contacted immediately. If impossible to reach Parents/Guardians, the family doctor or nearest emergency unit will be contacted as indicated on the student’s Emergency Form. This form MUST be filled out and returned to school by the first day school is in session. The office must be informed of any changes regarding the data on the form, which is vital for the health and well being of the child.
