Mrs. Shirts' 6th Grade Distance Learning Plan
Google Classroom will be the main platform to access all assignments, communication, and videos from me. All students have login information for Google Classroom and have been using it throughout the year. I will be inviting each of you via email to the classrooms as well so that you may access everything the students will be working on. Students who may not have electronic devices at home will be provided with an iPad to take home.
The following is a tentative distance learning plan that may evolve over time:

The following is a tentative distance learning plan that may evolve over time:
- Communication: I will be communicating daily lesson plans and assignments on the "6th Grade Homeroom" page on Google Classroom. Each day I will create a new post with specific directions for the day. Both you and your child will be able to see this.
- Math: Students will be working on online assignments through khanacademy.org. The students have login information and have been using it throughout the year. I will also send this to you in a separate email.
- Reading: Students will be reading a novel and completing assignments on Google Classroom. Students will also read articles and taking quizzes from https://newsela.com/ . They will need to login to their account for this. Each student already has an account. When accessing this website, they will need to click on "Sign in with Google" and enter their Google Classroom login information.
- Writing: Students will respond to daily writing prompts on Google Classroom.
- Grammar: Students will be completing assignments on https://www.noredink.com/. They will need to login to their account for this. Each student already has an account. When accessing this website, they will need to click on "Sign in with Google" and enter their Google Classroom login information.
- Science: Assignments will be posted on Google Classroom. This could include watching a short video and responding to a post.
- Social Studies: Assignments will posted on Google Classroom. Khan Academy and the textbook may be used to provide short video lessons and assignments to students.
- Religion: Students will be taking home their textbook. Assignments will be posted on Google Classroom. This could reading from the textbook and responding to a question on Google Classroom or watching a short video and responding to a post.
Students should have brought home the following:
- AR books
- Religion textbook

- Hatchet
- A Gathering of Days
- Math notebook
- Social Studies textbook
- Note cards with login information for Khan academy and Google Classroom/NewsELA/NoRedInk. There are only two different sets of login information students will be responsible for.
Attendance
- Each day, I will post a different question on the "6th Grade Homeroom" page on Google Classroom. Students' answer to that question will serve as their attendance. Attendance will be taken by 8:30 AM each day.
Grades
- I will be able to monitor all students' online work and will continue to update Rediker with their grades.
